Chivas USA midfielder Marcelo Saragosa had his one-game suspension and $500 fine doubled by Major League Soccer on Tuesday. The Brazilian player had received the initial sanction in wake of his red card against the Sounders in a 0-0 tie in Seattle on Saturday, when he caught Seattle forward Fredy Montero in the shoulder and face with a high kick that was ruled dangerous play.

The league’s disciplinary committee reviewed the play and said it warranted additional penalties. Saragosa will now be fined $1,000 and will miss Chivas USA’s home game against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday and its game at D.C. United on Oct. 3.
