UCLA’s Allmond awaits NCAA eligibility approval

A paperwork snafu will leave freshman fullback Jayson Allmond on the sideline for the first day of training camp.

The NCAA Eligibility Center was still awaiting paperwork from Riverside Bloomington High School, where Allmond played. He likely will be cleared to practice this week. Allmond, who is 6 feet and 266 pounds, is expected to compete for playing time at fullback despite being a true freshman. Besides his size, he has speed, competing in the 100 and 200 meters at Bloomington.
