This just in: Florida is No.1...and the sun also rises
The Florida Gators, who have won two of the last three Bowl Championship Series national titles, are No. 1 in Friday’s release of the USA Today preseason coaches’ poll.
Florida received 53 first-place votes, and Texas received four while Oklahoma and USC each received one vote.
Here’s the USA Today top 10: Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Alabama, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Louisiana State and Mississippi. Notre Dame checks in at No. 23 while UCLA received 14 points under the ‘others receiving votes’ category.

Rankman, the legendary and self-effacing prognosticator for the Los Angeles Times and Tribune Co., took a cursory glance at the USA Today poll, giggled a few times but announced he will not be influenced by the coaches’ opinions when he begins his daily preseason countdown on Monday.
