All eyes have been on the quarterback competition at USC, but the battle to become the Trojans’ field-goal kicker also was waged during training camp.

Today, Coach Pete Carroll announced that Jordan Congdon would handle field goals and extra points in the Sept. 5 opener against San Jose State. Congdon was chosen over Joe Houston.

Junior college transfer Jake Harfman is expected to handle kickoffs.

Congdon, a senior, made 19 of 23 field-goal attempts for Nebraska in 2005.

Congdon and junior defensive back Rob Erickson were awarded scholarships.
