With Eagles Coach Andy Reid and former coach Tony Dungy beside him at a news conference in Philadelphia, Michael Vick fielded an extensive series of questions about his past criminal activity and his hope for the future.

He said he had felt ‘shame’ and ‘embarrassment’ when talking to his children about being in prison on a dogfighting conviction.

Vick, who has signed a two-year deal with the Eagles (the second year at the Eagles’ option), says he doesn’t expect to start and that he is thankful that he can learn from quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Vick fielded all questions and seemed to answer candidly, without deflection. If you take him at face value, it seems that the effect of two years in prison was substantial.

Sam Farmer will have an account on latimes.com shortly.
