Dodgers' Jonathan Broxton injured, out of All-Star game, and more

July 11, 2009 |  3:46 pm

Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton will not pitch this weekend or in the All-Star game because of nerve irritation in the big toe of his right foot. Dodgers Manager Joe Torre said Guillermo Mota might close if necessary in today's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pitcher Eric Milton underwent an MRI exaination Friday that revealed a herniated disk in his back. Milton will be examined by a specialist Monday in Los Angeles, and Torre acknowledged season-ending surgery could be a possibility.

The Dodgers recalled left-hander Scott Elbert and optioned infielder Blake DeWitt to triple-A Albuqerque.

The Times' Dylan Hernandez will have more later at latimes.com/sports.
