The Dodgers are aggressively pursuing Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay today, according to a major league source who said this afternoon that he could not characterize the chances of a trade.

‘It’s hard to say,’ he said. ‘There’s so much back-and-forth on this.’

The Dodgers also acquired reliever George Sherrill from the Baltimore Orioles for two prospects, including third baseman Josh Bell. Sherrill, a left-hander, has 20 saves and a 2.40 ERA. He is expected to pitch the eighth inning, ahead of closer Jonathan Broxton.

The Dodgers and Blue Jays are trying to come up with a Halladay deal that would allow the Dodgers to retain Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley while enabling the Blue Jays to land a haul in prospects.
