MLB draft: Yucaipa’s Davidson goes No. 35 to Arizona Diamondbacks

Third baseman Matt Davidson of Yucaipa, a USC signee, was taken No. 35 by the Arizona Diamondbacks, starting a run on Southern California high school and college products.

Santa Monica left-hander Tyler Skaggs went No. 40 to the Angels. USC pitcher Brad Boxberger went No. 43 to the Cincinnati Reds. Former Dana Hills Dana Point pitcher Tanner Scheppers was picked No. 44 by the Texas Rangers.

USC signee Brooks Pounders of Temecula Valley was selected No. 53 by the Pittsburgh Pirates. USC catcher Robert Stock was chosen No. 67 by by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Other second-round selections include El Toro shortstop Nolan Arenado by the Colorado Rockies, Santa Margarita outfielder Trayce Thompson by the Chicago White Sox, Simi Valley Royal pitcher Bryan Berglund by the Florida Marlins and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame first baseman Kelly Dugan by the Philadelphia Phillies.
