UCLA moves quickly to recover from baseball draft

June 12, 2009 |  1:26 pm

Savage It's on to plan B for UCLA's baseball program, which could lose several incoming recruits to professional baseball. Coach John Savage moved quickly today in an attempt to strengthen the team by signing infielder Dean Espy from South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.

Espy will provide insurance should the Bruins lose Cypress infielder David Nick, who was taken this week in the fourth round of the amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

USC is also looking to the junior college ranks to fill possible holes created by losing several incoming recruits to the draft.
