We told you Friday that Stephen Strasburg, the San Diego State phenom expected to be selected with the top pick in Tuesday’s baseball draft, would appear with agent Scott Boras at a news conference in ‘the main lobby of the Boras Corporation offices.’

No more. The Boras Corporation just sent word that Strasburg would not appear in person after all. In order to ‘accommodate logistics of media requests and draft schedule,’ Strasburg and Boras would speak on a conference call Wednesday morning.

A Boras spokesman said there was no plan for Strasburg to speak on draft day, in part to keep the pitcher and his family from being overwhelmed at the attention. Still, we can’t imagine the Washington Nationals would be too thrilled if they anoint Strasburg as their future--a rare bit of hope for that woeful franchise--and then he passes on the usual draft-day interviews.
