Mayweather-Marquez fight postponed

Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s return to the ring won't happen as scheduled after the former world champion sustained a rib injury in training, which will delay his July 18 bout with Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas.

"I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed," Mayweather said. "I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring."

The best pound-for-pound fighter in the world when he retired after knocking out Ricky Hatton in December 2007, Mayweather is unbeaten in 39 pro fights.

"I was very disappointed to hear the news about the fight being postponed," said Marquez, 50-4 with 37 knockouts. "I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight whenever the fight is rescheduled."

No new date has been set.
