Kings pick center Brayden Schenn
The Kings used their first-round pick, fifth overall in the NHL draft, to add a center: Brayden Schenn. Schenn was considered one of the top five forwards in this year's talent pool.
He has been playing for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League and before the draft had talked about maybe being selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs so he could play alongside his brother Luke.
Toronto's GM Brian Burke knows about bringing brothers together -- consider Scott and Rob Niedermayer. But it was not to be, at least today. Today, the Kings got their man.
The analysis from TSN's Pierre McGuire on Brayden Schenn: "This guy is heart and soul and winning character. He'll be a perfect addition up front alongside Dustin Brown."

Solid pick by Lombardi. But I still wish they would pull the trigger and trade Frolov and Johnson to Ottawa for Heatley. Unless they are planning to acquire Kovalchuk from Atlanta over the summer, Heatley is as pure a goal scorer as will be available.

The Times' NHL Draft coverage pales in comparison to what was done for the NBA Draft. And this fact will not be forgotten come subscription renewal time.

The Kings are staying the course and building an amazing arsenal of young talent. Now they now to add top notch free agents to teach these kids how to win. Their goaltending is much improved, defense is solid, and forwards playing at both ends of the ice. Now they need offense. Two big time scorers will go a long way to taking the Kings to next level. they'll still be on the second tier below Pittsburgh, Detroit and the other elites, but they'll be a season or two away from joining them. Their incredible depth will allow them to stay there for many years.

Even before Burke brought the Niedermayer brothers together, he traded to bring the Sedin twins to Vancouver together. Sorry to disappoint you on this one, Burke, but the younger Schenn will be staying in L.A.
