Vin Scully, the voice of the Dodgers, can give you chills when he talks about nothing at all.

But his words about the tragic death of Angels’ pitcher Nick Adenhart were beautiful.

Scully delicately weaved his comments into the play-by-play from the Dodgers-Padres telecast on April 9. It might sound risky to discuss such a weighty topic with somebody in the batters box. Of course, the action on the field gave Scully just the opportunity to be his most poignant.

If you missed it, Will Leitch transcribed the brief monologue on his personal blog.

I often draw parallels between religion and sports (rarely a topic I write about, but one I like to talk about). In times like these, a good broadcaster can deliver a sermon that puts it all in perspective.
