When I went to Waukegan (Illinois) High School, basketball was a big deal. Season tickets were gold, you waited for years to get one. My freshman year the team won enough games to go, as we used to say, down state, which was where the super sectional winners went, to play at the University of Illinois. Waukegan lost its first game, but it was a great experience.

But time moves on, you move to places far away and you quit paying attention to your high school team.

Until your brother sends an e-mail with a link to a YouTube video of the final seconds of a sectional game. Here it is. Come on, watch that and tell me you don’t have goosebumps. The kid who made the shot is a junior, Jereme Richmond, already committed to Illinois.

Tonight Waukegan beat Glenbrook North to win the super sectional. So the Bulldogs are going to state again. Go Bulldogs.
