Minor league team goes for major carbo load
More fat in their diet.
This season, a minor league baseball team called the West Michigan Whitecaps -- based just outside of Grand Rapids -- is offering the Fifth Third burger, which is named after its Fifth Third Ballpark and is nearly as big.
The $20 snack bar monstrosity includes a beef patty weighing "five-thirds of a pound," nacho cheese, chili, salsa, crunched tortilla chips, tomato and lettuce on an 8-inch sesame seed bun, the team's website announces.
Total damage: Nearly 5,000 calories, 300 grams of fat and countless carbohydrates.
As Matt Timon, the Whitecaps' director of food and beverage, commented: "The Fifth Third burger is not for the casual eater."
There goes Michigan's reputation for the fit and svelte.
