There will be hockey in L.A. this summer--or hockey players, at least--after the ice melts at Staples Center.

The Kings on Friday announced plans for their first fan festival, joining a trend among sports teams.

LA Kings Hockey Fest ’09 will be staged Aug. 28-30 at LA Live, across the street from Staples Center and another tentacle of the AEG sports and entertainment empire.

The interactive festival will feature Kings players, coaches and alumni, autograph sessions, question-and-answer sessions, memorabilia and special merchandise. Season-ticket holders will get first dibs on buying tickets starting Tuesday at a discounted rate of $45. Sales to the general public will start on March 30 and tickets will cost $60. Those prices are for the entire weekend.

Who’s gonna be the first to take advantage of the Q-and-A to ask if the Kings are willing to promise they’ll make the playoffs next season?
