When I first moved to Southern California about 10 years ago, I quickly found my most enjoyable sports talk radio segment was Lee ‘Hacksaw’ Hamilton’s 15 minutes of sports headlines every day. They were news-filled and there was attitude but it wasn’t snarky or mean or innuendo-filled and for someone in a car without immediate access to a computer or the Web, it was great information. Not everybody loved him. When Hamilton was finished on his San Diego station last fall, he wasn’t praised.

Things change, radio stations format and reformat and now Hamilton, who spent 22 years doing afternoon drive-time sports talk on both XTRA-AM (690) from San Diego and KLAC-AM (570) from Los Angeles is the lead weekend anchor on the XM satellite station Home Plate Baseball Channel.

Hamilton is anchoring a noon to 4 p.m. national baseball show on Saturdays and Sundays, and like his previous shows, you learn a lot in quick bursts. If you have XM radio it’s channel 175. If you have Sirius it’s channel 210.
