Angels pitcher Kelvim Escobar threw his first batting practice session today, putting him on course to make his Cactus League debut as soon as Sunday. Escobar, coming off shoulder surgery, had been limited to bullpen sessions.

‘It felt a little weird to see a hitter for the first time in so long,’ he said.

Escobar threw fastballs, breaking balls and changeups to Robb Quinlan, Reggie Willits and Chris Pettit.

‘I’m very pleased for the first time,’ Escobar said.

He said he expects to throw one more batting practice session on Thursday, then pitch in a game on Sunday. Escobar, who has not pitched in a major league game since 2007, could rejoin the Angels in May.
