Federal prosecutors revealed in a court filing today that they anticipate calling ‘several witnesses’ next month who will testify about seeing Barry Bonds ‘being injected and about statements the defendant [Bonds] made admitting his use of steroids.’

The government, which is preparing for a perjury and obstruction-of-justice trial in March against baseball’s all-time home run king, identified the witnesses as ‘the defendant’s mistress’ (that would be Kimberly Bell), former personal assistants and a former teammate. A previous report identified one of Bonds’ ex-teammates with the San Francisco Giants, Bobby Estalella, as that player.

The government delivered a witness list, under seal, that indicates that ‘another witness will ... testify about incriminating statements by the defendant related to [personal trainer Greg] Anderson‘s steroid dealing,’ along with money and doping calendars found at Anderson’s home with Bonds’ name or initials on them. Bonds, the government said, made the statements in 2003.
