Dodgers confirm that Manny Ramirez rejected their offer

February 3, 2009 | 12:29 am

Within an hour of Times columnist T.J. Simers' breaking the news late Monday night that Manny Ramirez rejected the Dodgers' one-year, $25-million offer, club spokesman Josh Rawitch confirmed the development and spread the word in an e-mail to the team's beat writers.

"Hey guys," Rawitch wrote, "just a quick confirmation that Scott Boras and Ned spoke tonight and that Scott rejected the Dodgers' offer."

Boras, of course, is Ramirez's agent. "Ned" is Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti.

I love it. Manny never deserved to play for a team like Los Angeles.

He should just og back to Boston where he belongs. He's the bottom of the barrel in terms of being a good teammate. No other city on Earth deserves a joke like him.

I am so sick and tired of the Dodgers being such jerks about signing manny. They have really done nothing this offseason (if you wanna count furcal, blake, loretta, asmus, estes, mota..) Who is going to step up and lead the club house and help these so called upcoming core of the dodgers future. They go 2yrs w/a optiion, now 1yr. Why insult the man, he has a family to think about and at what cost is best for them. Frank, jamie and ned say they wanna help us win but by doing what.. I tell you what Manny will leave us all behind shove it in are face about these crappy offers and you will see a hole lotta of fans so damn angry at you front office jokes. This is one less fan that will be thirlled to see a game. Tell me this when did we have such a engertic, thirll ride of a player in dodger stadium playing for us, with all dodger fan stading and cheering.. buying so many things cause of Manny. This is what you won't see this season. Manny is are kobe of baseball and we haven't had that in so manny years.!!!!!

He is on his way to the Mets, book it.

Here is what the Dodgers should really do now that Boras has rejected their latest of the. Make an offer of 30 a year for 5yrs, get Boras and Manny to show up and on national TV and give these Jerks 150 dollars and laugh and walk away.

I know this will really never happen, but the deal is I am sick in tired of Scott Boras and the next time I see this dude in Costa Mesa I will tell him.

Wow. How shocking. You mean Manny Ramirez's priorities are in years and not in annual value? You would think that after selling millions of dollars worth of Dodger Doo Rags and Whacky Manny Wigs that the McCourts would be so bold as to offer a 3-year deal to their lone leader in offensive production.

But, hey. They're from Boston, and own a lot of houses. They understand Dodger Ball much more than I ever will. Apparently.

First of all, I have always thought that the Dodger organization and the fans have been a class act. My suggestion to Dodger fans, being from Boston, is to forgot Manny all together. Focus on Adam Dunn and Bobby Abreu. You could probably sign both for what Manny wants. Yes, Manny gave you everything he had for 3 months, but I guarantee you that he can't and won't do that for a season. He only looks out for himself, and doesn't care about the team or the teammates he plays with and for. His agent is a liar and I guarantee that there is no other team knocking on the door for Manny's services. Drop Manny and move on. Hopefully, he won't be signed by spring training and he'll come crawling back to the league and play for 10 million. MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!!!

MANNY UGH!!!!!

"Baseball Fan" says Manny needs to go back to Boston where he belongs. No thanks - we don't want him. You wanted him - now you have to keep him.

Manny lit up the LA Sky like no other in 20 years---don't be stupid, give the man and the Fans what they want: 3-5 good winning years. And Mc Court--Please get a real pitcher too. We turn fast in LA so get ready.

He has a family to think about?!?!? Could you feed your family on $25,000,000.00 per year, Sean? I know I could, and the neighbors, all of the homeless in my city...etc. Don't give me that BS! This all boils down to pride and Boras can't swallow his and admit Manny does not deserve the contract he is looking for. Bonds did not either in my opinion. I am greatful for what he did for the Dodgers last year but maybe one of those other offers will come through for him....oh wait....LA is the only one to offer him anything! G'luck Boras! Good riddance Manny!

manny reminds me of lattreal sprewell.... this guy doesnt have much left to play and is asking for 4yrs is crazy. Yes hes a good player but not a good team player at the end i dont think no one will sign him.

Adam Dunn hits .220! We don't need a .220 hitter even if he does hit 40 homers and walk a lot. .220 is .220! He strikes out a LOT! Dunn is not your man. Move along...

But Dunn gets on base 38% of the time. That it great. Also, half of his hits are for home runs and double. If not Manny, then go for Dunn.

Manny>Dunn, yes.

But to say Dunn is not good because he bats .220?
Come on now.

overall i would say that boras has been the problem in this negotiation. manny used to leave uncashed checks in his locker, that is not the type of personality that works the nego like this. manny is trusting his agent just like he has always done. next, regardless of manny's conduct in boston, he was the most important reason the dodgers got into the NLCS and had a chance to win it. for that reason alone, the dodgers should try to sign him. however, manny is selfish. again, forget about boston and listen to what he has said recently - i want to play a few more years and get to 3000 hits and maybe even 700 home runs, blah blah blah. he is talking about personal achievements and not about winning a championship. now, those sentiments sound suspciously like scott boras talking, because if you read anything manny has said in the past, he never talked like that. nevertheless, it is a curiously selfish attitude from a 37 year old player who has no offers except from LA. so, with these things in mind, the dodgers have done exactly what they should - offer him a 1 or 2 year at 20-25 per year. the problem is that the team has gotten worse overall. the position players are better - the infield will be healthier, more stable, and better defensively and offensively next year. russell martin is growing as a catcher and has managed the staff solidly. he could learn more, but he seems willing to grow and torre will help him. the dodger's however, got MUCH worse in their pitching staff. we only have a legitimate 2 and 3 starter, no real ace, and the rest of the rotation looks like a hospital ward with a couple rookies thrown in. How they expect the youngsters, Jason Schmidt and Wolf to put together a solid season is a mystery to me. the relief has potential but it all hinges on broxton as the closer, and he was not good with saves last year. so, considering all this, the dodgers should have offered manny 3 years at 20 per year with a 4th year option. there are other things to consider - such as - boras is a giant a$$hole. he has screwed the dodgers several times, most recently with andruw jones and j.d. drew. that is a factor in these negos. ned colletti would never admit it, but he wants to twist the knife if he can. also, you have to factor in mccourt. he wants to shed payroll. so, he's going to pursue manny only so far. and finally, there are other options for the dodgers. adam dunn or bobby abreu are decent options because the dodgers have a full infield so hudson is not a good fit and both of those guys are WAY better than juan pierre, and a hell of a lot cheaper than manny.
