ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that USC quarterback Mark Sanchez will declare himself eligible for the NFL draft.

‘The announcement will occur at USC’s Heritage Hall, and Pete Carroll is returning from a trip to Hawaii to be at Sanchez’s side for the announcement,’’ Mortensen wrote.

‘Sources say that Sanchez has been discouraged from turning pro by family members and that Carroll asked his quarterback to wait until Thursday’s NFL deadline for underclassmen to allow for a change of heart.

If Sanchez submits his paperwork to the NFL on Thursday, as expected, he would have four days to change his mind, as long as he does not enter into an agreement with an agent.’

The Times has been unable to immediately confirm.
