Mystery team for Manny Ramirez? It's not the Cardinals

January 28, 2009 |  1:25 pm

Manny RamirezScott Boras, the agent for Manny Ramirez, told The Times' Dylan Hernandez last night that he had started to negotiate with clubs other than the Dodgers.

But if not the Giants, then who else?

Boras wouldn't say, but a rumor circulated today that the Cardinals might be interested in Ramirez.

Albert Pujols, after all, was quoted by the Dominican Republic newspaper El Caribe as saying he had asked the Cardinals to sign Ramirez. And, three years ago, when no one thought Barry Bonds had any suitors besides the Giants, Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa met privately with Bonds' agent at the winter meetings.

So we called Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak. Is your team interested in Ramirez?

"The answer is no," Mozeliak said.

Scratch another mystery team off the list.

the mistery team is the yanks

You LA fans better start thinking AL teams here. Manny is a DH if I have ever seen one. Cardinals? Giants? (LOL).

How about the YANKEES. get your heads on straight. No other NL team is interested in Manny. He is destined for the Dodgers or he is going back to the AL East in pinstripes. Boras ALWAYS gives the Yanks LAST CALL like a drunk desperate guy at the bar late at night.

You heard it here first. Boras has beer goggles for the Yankees :)

Yankees cant sign anymore Type A or B free agents per this rule: Under the rules, "if there are from 39 to 62 [Type A and B] players [during a given offseason], no team can sign more than three." And the yankees have already signed 3 in Sabbathia, Burnett and Teixiera.

This is stupid why are Yankee fans getting on here and saying that every player is going to be a Yankee. Plus Yankee and mets fans should stop reading rumors on other teams and stick to the NY daily news or w/e Yankee fans read while I'll stick to the stll post dispatch
But I think this a deal that they could get done if they truly wanted to. Pujols and manny are bff's and possibly give us a discount and rather than get booed for a bad day at the plate come to the best fans in baseball. Cards fans are very knowlgable about the game and support our players through thick and thin

As much as I would like to see Albert batting with Manny-caliber protection, he won't get picked up by STL for 3 reasons:

1) STL fans can't stand arrogant prima donnas, and won't put up with his moody antics.
2) They don't respect players who can't play their position.
3) DeWitt is cheap.

100% chance Manny ends up playing for the Dodgers this year, and if they keep him happy they might even with the pennant.
