The Lakers maintain that they are trying to get through this season by enjoying the journey.

They don’t want to look ahead to the playoffs -- because they know that they first have to play out the regular season.

Their goal is to end with the best record in the NBA -- which they currently have at 35-8 -- which would give the Lakers home-court advantage through the postseason.

The Lakers know that they would have a better chance at beating the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals -- assuming both teams get there again -- if they have the home-court advantage.

‘We’re just building a foundation for the playoffs, is what we’re doing in the regular season,’’ Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said. ‘We want to obviously have [the best] home-court record -- everybody does –- and if it’s available, we’re going to try and get it. We’re building up towards that final push that comes in April and March.’

The next step on that journey starts at 7:30 p.m. (PT) with a game against the Charlotte Bobcats.
