MELBOURNE, Australia -- Marion Bartoli seemed to spend more time trying to find a cool spot at Rod Laver Arena than to find any part of her game that might work in her 6-3, 6-0 loss to No. 7-seeded Vera Zvonareva on Tuesday in a women’s quarterfinal match.

The heat has been turned up today with temperatures reaching well over 100 degrees on the court early in the afternoon. Bartoli (pictured at left) tried putting long bags of ice around her neck and left the court briefly after the first set.

But the ice didn’t help, standing in the shade didn’t help, and by the end of the 69-minute match No. 16 Bartoli seemed interested only in getting out of the sun.

Next up on steamy Rod Laver Arena is Andy Roddick and defending champion Novak Djokovic.
