Grand jury reportedly convened for Roger Clemens

January 12, 2009 | 11:45 am

A grand jury in Washington has reportedly been convened to hear evidence on whether seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens lied under oath during his appearance before Congress last year, ESPN.com reports today.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Washington said there would be "no comment on pending matters," and Clemens' attorney, Rusty Hardin, did not immediately return messages left by The Times. Attorneys for Brian McNamee, Clemens' former trainer, who alleged in the Mitchell Report that Clemens did use steroids and human growth hormone during his playing career, also did not immediately return messages left by The Times.

We'll have more information on this report later today on latimes.com.

GRAND JURY:
Mr. Clemens, can you tell us why your head has grown to be the size of a watermelon?

ROGER CLEMENS:
I'm not sure but it might have been those B-12 shots I was taking. Ask Barry, maybe he knows.
