Ducks' George Parros signs three-year contract extension
If the Ducks can't give their fans a Stanley Cup this year, then they took a step today to give the people what they really want: more George Parros.
The popular Parros, who plays right wing when he isn't brawling, was signed to a three-year extension today that is worth $875,000 per season.
"His character and toughness on the ice along with his commitment to our community have been valuable assets for the organization," Ducks General Manager Bob Murray said.
Parros averages only 6.2 minutes of ice time per game or four times as many minutes he spends in the penalty box. But Parros' ice time is actually well spent. His plus-minus rating is plus-9, one better than Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf, who is fourth in the NHL in scoring.
In Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Chicago, Parros knocked Brian Campbell on his backside minutes after he'd set up the opening goal. And when Blackhawks' tough guy Matt Walker came over, he and Parros dropped their gloves and threw punches at each other. They were each booked five minutes for fighting.
But Parros has shown a little more skill with his stick this season. He has three goals and five assists, which along with his new contract, represent a career high.

Parros can laugh all the way to the bank. If the NHL braintrust had any intelligence, fighting would be banned and subject to immediate ejection and suspension like every other major pro sports league. But Parros does have one thing going for him. Some of the best facial hair in sports.
