Dodgers avoid arbitration with Jason Repko

January 19, 2009 |  8:54 am

Jason Repko The Dodgers avoided arbitration with outfielder Jason Repko, signing him to a one-year, $500,000 contract. The deal includes $87,500 in incentives based on plate appearances.

Repko, 28, might figure into the Dodgers' plans if they fail to re-sign Manny Ramirez.

Repko missed the entire 2007 season because of a torn hamstring but returned last season to hit .283 with 12 home runs and 50 runs batted in in 121 games for triple-A Las Vegas. He was called up to the majors twice last season and hit .167 with a double in 22 games.

Stay tuned to latimes.com/sports for complete baseball coverage.

Mccourts Please SELL THE DODGERS. Your sending this once wonderful Organization down the tiolet.

Repko may be a good utility player, but, obviously, he aint no Manny.

I'm happy to see this, would love to see him get a chance to play more, just to see what he could accomplish. Good speed, great arm, big heart....just needs a chance! Nice top of the order skill set..............

Dear McCheaps,

Why do you continue to not sign Manny Ramirez? I believe you now could easily sign him as Andruw Jones is gone. You have already allowed Brad Penny, Derek Lowe, Saito and Beimel to leave without signing anyone of the same quality.

Allow us to again compete and matter in the National League. The kids were one thing, but we need actually two more big bats (Manny plus some one to protect him in the line up).

While I know you are not from the West Coast and you prefer the American league, but please sell the team, give us a chance to compete.

These people who say "why don't you hurry up sign Manny" are all pretty stupid. He will sign when Boras is ready to have him sign and not until then. Boras is delaying so he can continue to try to find someone else besides the Dodgers to bid on Manny. In the meantime it would be bad business and just plain stupid for the Dodgers to bid against themselves.

When will McCourt start selling Repko replica eyebrows in the stadium gift shops?

I CANT BELEIVE WITH ALL THE RESOURCES AFFORDED THE DODGERS THAT A FAR BETTER PRODUCT CANT ( OR WONT ) BE PUT ON THE FIELD. THE OWNERS SHOULD BE ASHAMED AT HOW THEY HAVE TAKEN ONE OF THE TRUELY ICONIC FRANCHISES IN SPORTS AND TURNED THEM INTO A JOKE ( AND A BAD ONE AT THAT ) . THE ONLY REASON WE HAD ANYTHING WORTH WATCHING LAST YEAR WAS BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE WAS PICKING UP THE TAB. I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON ALL THAT MONEY YOU BILK OUT OF US DODGER FANS.
