Those college football awards are a little like a kid’s birthday party. Everyone goes home with a favor.

Florida’s Tim Tebow won the Maxwell Award as college football’s top player, but Texas’ Colt McCoy won the Walter Camp award as player of the year. And even though they are both quarterbacks, Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford won the Davey O’Brien award as the nation’s best quarterback and Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell won the Johnny Unitas award as the nation’s outstanding senior quarterback.

Does this give Tebow the advantage for the Heisman Trophy? Or McCoy? Or Bradford?

Sam Farmer writes about why none of the three might be a fit for NFL offenses. Read about it later today on LATimes.com and in tomorrow’s L.A. Times.

Michael Phelps continued on his book tour for ‘No Limits: The Will to Succeed’ with an appearance last night on Comedy Central’s ‘The Colbert Report.’’

The host, Steven Colbert, told his audience: “To prepare for this interview, I shaved off all my body hair.” Colbert ran on-stage with his Emmy Award hanging from around his neck, as if it were a gold medal.

Funny stuff. Colbert asked Phelps is the title of Chapter One was ‘Swim Real Fast?’’

Phelps wrote the book with NBC’s Alan Abrahamson, a former Times Olympic reporter.
