Good morning: Lakers.

Excuse me, guys. You obviously haven’t woken up yet.

All that talk about focus and commitment and defense was just that: Talk. It’s still a team that can’t win the little ones.

Speaking of that defense, Lakers Coach Phil Jackson last week was heaping praise on Kurt Rambis for the Lakers’ new schemes. So who gets the blame for last night’s 113-101 loss to Sacramento?

That was not a game the Kings believed they had a chance to win. You could call it an early Christmas gift. Owner Gavin Maloof didn’t show up wearing all black for nothing.

I believe CC Sabathia when he told Ned Colletti he’d like to play for the Dodgers. I also believe he’d rather play for the New York Yankees for seven years for $160 million.

ESPN’s Jayson Stark had to answer the question this morning about why Sabathia would give up on his dream of returning home to the West Coast.

Uh, well, let’s see if we can figure that one out ... seven years, $160 million?

I was reading Toronto’s Globe & Mail today because I wanted to see if hockey player Sean Avery had said anything else stupid and came across a line about MLB’s ‘belt tightening in the face of a worsening world economy.’’

As usual, the Yankees didn’t get the memo.

Not that Barry Melrose holds a grudge or anything, but he said this morning he hopes the Tampa Bay Lightning doesn’t win another game this season. Perhaps ESPN should consider not allowing him to comment on the Lightning. Let’s not forget Melrose was a tough guy on the ice too. In this video, he is the guy in red, when he played for the Detroit Red Wings.
