USC and UCLA blend for tradition

The Rose Bowl is awash in the blue worn by UCLA fans and the cardinal worn by USC fans, mirroring the uniforms on the field.

The Bruins and the Trojans are both donning home jerseys for the first time since 1982, a tradition USC Coach Pete Carroll had been eager to restore.

The officials assessed a penalty against USC for violating a rule that requires visiting teams to wear white jerseys. UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel then took a timeout to even things up for the first half.

The crowd, for perhaps the only time today, stood in unison and cheered the restoration of the colorful tradition.
