Mark Teixeira could be moving from the Angels to Red Sox

Mark Teixeira

It is very bad news for the Angels, if true: Mike Lynch, from Channel 5 (WCVB TV) in Boston, is reporting today that Red Sox owner John Henry, General Manager Theo Epstein and CEO Larry Lucchino will meet agent Scott Boras tonight at the Texas home of free agent Mark Teixeira with the hopes of signing the slugging first baseman to an eight-year deal, possibly worth $184 million.

Teixeira has been the Angels' top priority this winter, and Angels General Manager Tony Reagins confirmed that the team made an eight-year offer to the switch-hitter. In 54 games after a July 29 trade from Atlanta, Teixeira batted .358 with a .449 on-base percentage, 13 home runs and 43 runs batted in.

Reagins wouldn't divulge the value of the offer, but it is believed to be in excess of $160 million and possibly close to $180 million.

The Angels see Teixeira, a two-time Gold Glove winner, as the cornerstone of their lineup for the next eight years, and to lose him to the rival Red Sox, who have beaten the Angels in the American League division series three times in the last five seasons, would be a crippling blow.

Not only would Teixeira, who is said to favor the East Coast, provide a huge boost to Boston, his loss would leave the Angels with another gaping hole in their lineup, one they thought they had finally filled last summer, and could relegate the Angels to a team with division-winning but not World Series-winning potential.

Boston media wants you to believe this rubbish is true!! IT IS FALSE!!! It is a lie started by a radio station!!

Actually, it's a television station. Read the parenthesis...(WCVB TV) I can't wait to beat the Angels in the Divisional series again, next year

Mark Teixeira is asking to much money , he is a very good 1st baseman but The Angels could get someone who is alot less money someone like Konerko from the White Sox they would have to give up Figgons or Kendrick ,

We have been waiting for this. Boston has been suckered in. Texeiria has a bad knee
he is a great player but you guys will be collecting insurance while the Angels are going to add Peavy and Fuentes to their staff. Pitching whens playoffs, and you do not have it. Dice K will be a flop this year, after video study he can not throw a breaking ball for a strike he has a 90 MPH mediocre fastball that the hitters will be sitting on. Lester is better than average but is a good # 3. Becket is finished a average # 4 at best. Papelbon is outstanding but when you are losing by 3 runs or more in playoffs he will be hopeless. Hitters are abundant, Angels have Kendrys Morales, a better left handed hitter than Texeira. Angels have never intended to sign him this year Arte and Yankees outsmarted you Boston dreamers. Good luck trying to make the playoffs against the new Yankees with Manny Ramirez and their first rate staff. We win our division and if we need ahitter we will pick him up mid season. You better worry about wild card, your only chance.
