Penn State’s star defensive end Aaron Maybin arrived at the team’s Rose Bowl Media Day today and was a magnet for reporters.

As the pennstate.scout.com web site points out, today was the first chance reporters had to talk to the All-American defensive end since the Nittany Lions arrived in California. The first question was why Maybin had been knocked down to the second team for Saturday and Sunday practices before being moved back to the first team yesterday.

But Maybin said it was not such a big deal and that it was all his fault anyway, explaining that he was demoted by head coach Joe Paterno after being late for a meeting.

‘It was just Joe’s was of making sure everybody stays on top of things,’ said Maybin, a third-year sophomore who has wowed scouts wth his pass-rushing ability.

Reporters also asked about a possible early entry into the NFL draft. Maybin, who has 12 sacks for the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions, wouldn’t go there, though. According to SportingNews.com, he said: ‘The team has worked very hard to get to the point where we are at right now, and to be in the position to play such a great game. I’ll be doing my teammates a disservice if I brought the attention to myself.’
