CBS debuts its new lead college basketball television broadcast team, the one that is minus Billy Packer.

Beginning with an 11 a.m. tipoff Saturday between Memphis and Georgetown, Clark Kellogg assumes the role as lead college basketball broadcaster for the network. Kellogg will work with Jim Nantz, who had also been Packer’s partner.

Packer and CBS abruptly parted ways last summer. Packer had announced 34 consecutive Final Fours. He had become known as college basketball’s resident grouch, especially when it came to giving at-large berths to the so-called mid-major programs and for general joylessness except when he was calling an Atlantic Coast Conference game (Packer played at Wake Forest).
