Lakers’ Jordan Farmar has surgery, will miss eight weeks

Lakers backup point guard Jordan Farmar had successful surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and is expected to miss the next eight weeks of the season, the team announced this afternoon.

Farmar, 22, is in his third season with the team. He underwent a 30-minute procedure by Dr. Clarence Shields of the Kerlan-Orthopaedic Group.

Farmar was injured in the Lakers’ loss at Miami last Friday. Prior to the injury, he was averaging 7.9 points and 2.4 assists per game. The Lakers are expected to sign another guard to fill in for Farmar.
