For Angels, pitcher Jon Garland going, going ...

December 8, 2008 |  2:51 pm

LAS VEGAS -- The agent for Jon Garland said today that the veteran right-hander hasn't "completely closed the door" on a return to the Angels, but the chances of such a return appear remote.

Craig Landis, who represents Garland, is looking for a two- or three-year deal for the 29-year-old right-hander, and he said at least three teams, including the pitching-thin Baltimore Orioles, have expressed serious interest. But the Angels are not one of them.

The Angels offered Garland arbitration, which means they were willing to retain him at a salary in the neighborhood of the $12 million he made in 2008, but Garland turned it down Sunday. Landis said the Angels had no interest in discussing a multi-year deal for Garland, who went 14-8 with a 4.90 earned run average in 32 games last season but allowed opponents to hit .303 with 23 home runs.

The only way Garland would consider a return to the Angels, Landis said, is if the pitcher was not satisfied with any of his other offers and the Angels were still willing to discuss a one-year deal.
