LAS VEGAS -- The Dodgers are on the verge of making their first free-agent acquisition of the winter, as they agreed to terms on a one-year deal with 37-year-old utility infielder Mark Loretta on Monday night, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Loretta hit .280 with four home runs and 38 runs batted in 101 games for the Houston Astros this year. Loretta has played every infield position for the Astros, including 46 games at second base. He figures to be backup for the Dodgers.
