Angels withdraw offer to Mark Teixeira
Tim Mead, the Angels' vice president of communications, confirmed a foxsports.com report that the team has withdrawn its offer to Mark Teixeira and is no longer pursuing the free-agent first baseman.
The Angels, according to General Manager Tony Reagins, offered Teixeira an eight-year deal, and though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, it was believed to be in excess of $160 million.
The Boston Red Sox offered Teixeira an eight-year deal believed to be worth $170 million, the Washington Nationals reportedly offered him an eight-year, $160-million deal, and the Baltimore Orioles reportedly offered a seven-year deal for about $150 million.
More details to come.

Well, the best part is that the lines at the concession stands, and the crowds will be far smaller.
This team will scare no one, will win and lost most games by 3-2 scores, and IF IF IF they make the playoffs, they'll be 'one and done.'
For us who've been around for four decades, this will be a return to the past - the front-runner fans will be gone and we'll still love the Halos.

Arte decides he can't stomach $15 Parking and $9 Brew. Any false hope Angel fans had for next season just died...lol

This is a good thing. Tex is good and will be good, but the cost would have strangled the Angels for years to come. We have good and hungry players that are playing to earn a big payday in the future. Let them shine. Divide the money that was going to Tex to sign Lackey long term before he htis free agency. Get another starting pitcher (or trade for Peavy). Use the bushel of draft picks to build an even better farm system. I am glad that cooler heads have prevailed in Halo land. I am a season ticket holder, and I will be back!

Good for the Angels. Now, go get Adam Dunn at half the price. You still get a guy who compliments the team and is a lock for 100 RBI's every year.

And, whether or not Texeira signs with the Angels, their fans will continue to say things like their team will "win or lost" games by 3-2 scores.

Yeah, go get Dunn, aka: Whiff King

Tex "played" LA perfectly.
Or was it LA "playing" the Yanks and Bosox?
Either way, Tex has shown his true colors through this...
Just another greedy player with a high powered agent (and PR firm).
I cannot stand another word from Fuentes and the closer situation.
I wonder how Scot feels reading Fuentes' overtures of closing for the Angels.
How on earth does Shields ever get respect?
He's paid his dues, now it's his turn. Let him close or trade him where he can at least have a shot at "the big money".
Get Dunn, trade for a real third baseman, and let's move on.
And please get rid of Chone. He cannot play the outfield (did you forget all of those singles dropping in front of him?) and he doesn't have the power to hold a corner position.
Now's the time to deal him to the Chisox for Konerko.
