Runaway juror couldn't miss Breeders' Cup

November 4, 2008 | 10:50 am

Horse racing, or at least the Breeders' Cup, received one of its stranger endorsements this week.

A juror who abruptly vanished from the federal corruption trial against Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) initially told the judge in the case that her father had died.

But now she has confessed -- she had a plane ticket to Southern California to attend the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita and didn't want to miss it.

No word on how she did at the windows.

But there is good news for her father. He is still alive.
