Rafael Furcal fields offers from 6 teams

November 19, 2008 |  8:00 pm

Rafael Furcal beats the tag from Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz in Game 4 of the NLCS.

The agent for Rafael Furcal said today that the shortstop has received formal offers from three teams, but that it does not appear the Dodgers are one of them -- yet.

"We've talked to them a lot," Paul Kinzer said of the Dodgers, for whom Furcal hit .357 with five home runs and 16 runs batted in during an injury-abreviated 2008 season. "We'll be talking to them some more."

The Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs are among the six teams that are believed to have shown interest in Furcal, who was limited by a back injury to 36 games this past season.

Furcal, a slick-fielding and speedy leadoff batter, just completed a three-year, $39-million deal with the Dodgers, but Kinzer said he expects his next deal to be at least four years in length.
