More news from the Wooden Tip-Off annual college basketball coaches luncheon today at the Los Angeles Athletic Club:

The Wooden Legends of Coaching Award was awarded to Rick Barnes, who has coached Texas to 10 straight NCAA appearances. He is tied for third place among active coaches with 13 straight NCAA appearances, including three while coaching Clemson University before he moved to Texas.

Texas will play UCLA in Austin on Dec. 4 as part of the Pac-10/Big-12 Series. That gives UCLA fans the opportunity to see the legend that is Barnes for the second year in a row. Last year Texas upset UCLA at Pauley 63-61.

Past Wooden Legends honorees include University of Tennessee women’s coach Pat Summitt, the University of Arizona’s Lute Olson and the University of North Carolina’s Roy Williams (who was coaching at the University of Kansas when he received the award).
