Kings will add to Saturday's TV traffic jam
In a previous post, Times Sports Editor Randy Harvey mentioned that the 5:07 p.m. (PT) starting time for Saturday's Game 2 of the American League Championship Series would result in a television overlap with the UCLA-Oregon football game.
In this confluence of sports seasons it slipped his mind that another important event will take place about the same time: the Kings' NHL season opener at San Jose at 7 p.m, on Fox Sports Net West.
I'll be there for that one, eager to see how this latest rebuilding project pans out and -- maybe -- to earn the right to boast someday that I saw Drew Doughty's NHL debut. Even if restricted free agent Patrick O'Sullivan signs today, it's unlikely that he would play Saturday, but we'll keep you posted.
I'll also be in San Jose for the Ducks' season opener on Thursday. The Ducks and Sharks figure to be two of the best in the West this season, so it will be an early test for both.
Happy hockey season to all!

The Times Sports Editor, Randy Harvey, neglected to mention the Kings' NHL season opener this Saturday night? Color me not surprised in the least, for as hockey fans know, Helene Elliott is the only journalist there who gives a rip about the NHL. Wish it weren't true, but sadly, it is. Check out the Times' preseason NHL coverage and tell me the Kings and Ducks get equal coverage to the other major pro sports teams. Go ahead, tell me. I dare you. I figure Editor Harvey would just as soon the NHL get up and crawl away so he would not have to even deal with it....
