That headline is misleading. As a pitcher, Brett Myers didn’t three-hit the Dodgers. As a matter of fact, he wasn’t all that effective as the Phillies’ starting pitcher in Game 2.

But he did get three hits at the plate in the Phillies’ 8-5 win over the Dodgers. Three hits from a player who had only four hits all season in 58 at-bats. Three hits from the Brett Myers whose greatest moment at the plate until today was coaxing a walk from Milwaukee’s CC Sabathia in the NLDS last week.

Myers was so amused by the attention he received by reporters who cover the Phillies that he entered today’s pre-game news conference with his black bat on his shoulder. He didn’t take it off until he had driven in three runs.

Of course, he gave up five runs in five innings, including three on a Manny Ramirez home run.

But it’s Dodgers pitchers, especially Chad Billingsley, who should be embarrassed. Three hits for Brett Myers!
