Last call: Don Drysdale, Kirk Gibson and The Backstreet Boys
In honor of Wednesday being Game 1 of the World Series, here's a link to one of the greatest home run calls in baseball history.
Jon Weisman at the outstanding blog, dodgerthoughts.com, has a link to the late Don Drysdale's call of Kirk Gibson's home run in Game 1 of the 1988 Series.
Jack Buck's call and Vin Scully's call from that game were also good, but Drysdale's call rarely gets mentioned and was just as memorable.
You can't listen to it without getting goose bumps.
Rest in peace, Big D.
Meanwhile,
The Backstreet Boys sang the national anthem before Game 1. Their photo is above. Question from co-worker Jim Barrero when looking at the guy on the right: When did Rob Schneider join the Backstreet Boys?
