Seth Petruzelli, who defeated the supposedly invincible Kimbo Slice in a MMA fight Saturday night, made some controversial comments on an Orlando, Fla., radio show Monday morning:

‘My original plan was to throw out push kicks, have him think that I’m gonna throw them more, and then to shoot in on him, obviously. But the promoters kind of hinted to me, and they gave me the money to stand and trade with him. They didn’t want me to take him down, let’s just put it that way. It was worth my while to try to stand up and punch with him. -- Petruzelli on ‘The Monsters in the Morning’ radio show.

Yes, Petruzelli basically came out on the radio and said that EliteXC promoters paid him to play to Kimbo Slice’s strengths during the fight. Slice has almost no submission skills and relies mainly on punching power to win his fights. If the promoters did ask Petruzelli to play to Slice’s strengths, then they are trying to turn EliteXC into pro wrestling. And that will kill the sport.
