Police in Winston-Salem, N.C., revealed today that troubled golfer John Daly was found drunk outside a Hooters restaurant Sunday and taken into custody.

Officers went to the restaurant on a medical call and found Daly being worked on after losing consciousness, a police statement said. The statement said he had been ‘extremely intoxicated and uncooperative’ and had been asked to leave the restaurant.

Daly has always been light years from the buttoned-down elite country club set that makes up the PGA Tour, as this video shows, but his career and life in the last few years has spun even further out of control.

A two-time major winner, Daly has battled alcoholism during his career. He has missed 10 cuts in 17 PGA Tour events this year, and has withdrawn from two others. His best finish was a tie for 40th in September. He has always operated on the edge, but now apparently may have fallen over it.

Police said he was detained for a 24-hour stay, until he was sober, and released.
