Heisman chase for USC's Mark Sanchez: Out again

October 14, 2008 |  4:39 pm

Colt McCoyUSC's Mark Sanchez three weeks ago was second in the Orlando Sentinel Heisman Trophy poll.

Then he dropped out after the loss to Oregon State.

Then he moved to third after the victory over Oregon.

Now he's out again after a poor performance against Arizona State.

What next? First?

That place now belongs to Texas' Colt McCoy, who quarterbacked Saturday's 45-35 upset victory over Oklahoma. Despite the loss, Sooners' quarterback Sam Bradford remained in second. Missouri's Chase Daniel, who once had a commanding lead, dropped to third. Texas Tech's Graham Harrell is fourth.

That's right. The top four are all Big 12 quarterbacks. Eight of the top 12 in the poll are from the Big 12.

Shouldn't the Big-12, at some point, actually have to beat a quality non-conference opponent before they get annointed as the greatest conference in all the land?

Sanchez doesn't rate consideration, too many above him and he also sits about 13th in NCAA QB ratings. Who starts this hype ?
