The first home game of Bob Miller’s 36th season as a member of the Kings’ broadcast team had a special angle to it.

Miller turned 70 on Sunday, and he spent the day as he has spent so many others -- calling the action of a Kings game on TV.

He wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else and said he has never reached the point of dreading going to work.

‘Not unless I have laryngitis or something,’ he said. ‘Like a lot of people there are probably some days when you’re tired and you wish we didn’t have a game, but by the time I get here, just the atmosphere and anticipation get me going.

‘After all these years, the thing that still excites me is that we’re doing live TV for three hours. Sports is essentially the only place you see that anymore. The news is live but it’s usually scripted.

‘There’s still something that excites me about doing this.’

Unlike the Kings team, the broadcast crew is stocked with veterans.

Radio play-by-play announcer Nick Nickson is in his 28th year with the Kings. Jim Fox, Miller’s partner, is in his 19th year on TV and 29th with the organization (and yes, he still pronounces it organ-eye-zation).

Last but hardly least, radio analyst Daryl Evans is in his 10th season in that job.

There were nights that lineup was better than the ones on the ice.
