The Colorado Rapids have just scored on a penalty kick by Tom McManus to cut the Galaxy’s lead to one goal at the Home Depot Center with the game now in injury time.

Galaxy defender Sean Franklin was called for handling the ball, even though he had turned his back on a shot and did not intenionally handle the ball.

Referee Michael Kennedy saw it differently, and now the Galaxy has to hold on to its lead and its slim playoff homes.

A Landon Donovan shot has just curled wide of the left post. The seconds are ticking down. Colorado is desperate. Like the Galaxy, the Rapids have to win or tie this game.

They won’t do so. Kennedy has blown his whistle. It’s all over. Galaxy wins, 3-2, and keeps its slim playoff hopes alive heading into a road game at defending MLS champion Houston on Saturday.
