Feeling Stanfordish

October 11, 2008 |  3:31 pm

As Mark Sanchez has thrown some really ugly passes in the second half and as USC can't seem to quite stomp out any Arizona State hope at the Coliseum, this game is taking on the feel of USC's loss to Stanford last year. The Trojans are the far superior team and have a quarterback who is playing with an injury (just like last year, John David Booty with his broken finger, this year Sanchez with his knee) and USC has a plenty capable backup champing at the bit on the sidelines just like last year (Sanchez last year, Mitch Mustain this year).

The enthusiasm of the Coliseum crowd seems to have disappeared as I watch this game on ABC (and it's not an HD broadcast. Why?). This all just feels like a USC team casually coasting behind a quarterback who may not be in his best physical shape. I can almost hear Pete Carroll saying tomorrow, "I regret not putting Mustain in there. That will keep me up at night."
