Charles Barkley making sense? Day is night; night is day

October 28, 2008 |  9:30 am

Charles Barkley

Professional talker Charles Barkley was being interviewed by CNN's Campbell Brown Monday. But there was no Kobe talk, Celtics chatter and no jabs at fellow NBA analyst Kevin Smith. The Round Mound of Rebound was, dare we say, the straight talk express, tackling (not literally) tough issues, including the election, the economy and education.

Even more interesting, Barkley seemed to be denying his player-persona ("I not a role model ... " ) by sounding very much like a populist candidate.

Oh wait, he plans to be just that in 2014.

Brown: So are you going to run for governor?
Barkley: I plan on it in 2014.
Brown: You are serious.
Barkley: I am, I can't screw up Alabama.
Brown: There is no place to go but up in your view?
Barkley: We are No. 48 in everything and Arkansas and Mississippi aren't going anywhere.

Barkley's main campaign theme?

Barkley: All the way education, the public school system in this country is the worst it has ever been and what that does is that hurts crime, it hurts the judicial system.

First Nick Saban puts the Crimson Tide back on the college football map, now Barkley wants to make sure that kids can find Tuscaloosa on a map.
